Fabulous 40

What better way to remember a birthday than a mini album, especially when it’s a 40th birthday celebrated with a 70’s themed party.  I couldn’t think of a better way so here’s the mini album I made for my friend’s birthday.

I’ve never made a mini album before nor have I ever used an acrylic album but this certainly won’t be my last.  I bought the Jillibean mystery box at their recent sale and there was a paper pad in there with most of the papers I used, it was a happy coincidence that it was in the box and the patterns were so retro fun.

I’m currently in love with shrink film, which is how I made the K and 40 on the front.  I found a picture of some 70’s wallpaper on the net and printed it on the film before cutting out the K and 40 and shrinking them.  The background paper is another wallpaper I found on the net and the pink heart (cut from CTMH’s Art Philosophy on my Cricut) has lots of little stamps from SOG’s In Stitches Tia set and some Smooch Glitz.  The star the 40 is sitting on is also from Art Philosophy, in fact everything I needed to cut I cut from this cart.  I used Smooch Glitz and regular Smooch on the star as well as Liquid Glass to make it all sparkle, I also added the Liquid Glass over the shrinkies.

I decided to alternate pages with one side for a photo and the other space to journal.  I used a variety of embellishments I had to add to the pages trying to keep to a 70’s theme as much as possible.  My friend also isn’t particularly girlie so I stuck to flowers as my theme.

I used lots of Liquid Glass over the frames I cut from Art Philosophy and the Best Glue Ever to raise them above the backing sheet to allow a photo to be slipped inside.  I wanted to show that the album was acrylic so the pages with the frames I left deliberately bare around the frame, except for my embellishments, but this did call for some careful placement and choice of frame shapes so they worked from both sides.  Luckily the Jillibean paper was double sided too so there was a nice pattern showing through on the other side.

I finished the album off with my little logo on the back, having given her a 70’s makeover.  My very talented friend drew her for me and actually did a version with psychedelic mushrooms on the skirt (although in my blurry photo it’s a bit hard to see!) so I just set about making her dress rainbow coloured.

Thanks for stopping by!
